The Strugglers Golf Society is a private golfing association formed to bring together golfers who share a love for the game, good company, and a bit of friendly competition.
Our Society provides members with the opportunity to play at a variety of golf courses while enjoying the camaraderie of fellow golfers in a relaxed and welcoming environment. While the name may suggest otherwise, the Strugglers are united by a passion for improving our game, supporting one another on and off the course, and sharing memorable golfing experiences.
Founded on the principles of sportsmanship and fellowship, the Society continues to grow while maintaining the friendly spirit that has defined it for more than a decade.
The mission of the Strugglers Golf Society is simple: to provide members with opportunities to improve their golf by playing at various venues while enjoying the camaraderie of fellow golfers in a relaxed, social environment.
The Society exists independently of its individual members and office bearers, ensuring continuity and stability even as membership and leadership evolve over time.
At the heart of the Strugglers Golf Society are the values that guide how we play, compete, and interact with one another.
The Society aims to:
Strugglers Golf Society prides itself on maintaining a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. While competition is part of the experience, the Society places equal importance on friendship, respect, and shared enjoyment of the game.
Our traditions include the occasional light-hearted fine for on-course misdemeanours, always intended in good spirit and contributing to the running of the Society.
Above all, the Strugglers Golf Society is about bringing people together through golf.
The Calendar
A highlight of the Strugglers calendar is our monthly golf outings, hosted at a variety of golf courses throughout the year. Each outing includes:
Participation is limited to 52 players per event, with places allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
From the Committee
It is the end of 2004, and a few friends are having a discussion over a beer (or something). The topic is to start a social golf society. Getting together regularly for a round of golf and something to soothe the thirst. And so, the Strugglers Golf Society was founded.
Legend have it that things have not always been easy in the early days. It seems as though the term "the struggle is real" had special meaning to our founders, and they lived up to our name. Apparently, there was more than one occasion that we almost seized to exist.
Today we have members who have been part of that early days — guys like Bertie Kalis who have been a member for 20 years now, our first recipient of a white cap. We have JC Huisamen, who only missed one Strugglers game since he joined in 2013.
Covid almost cost us dearly when our numbers dwindled, and we were left with only 14 players at the end of 2020. History repeats itself however — a few friends were having a discussion over a beer again, a new direction was taken, and a Committee was elected.
Today we have almost 70 active members and we're able to fill a day with between 52 and 60 players. The success of Strugglers lies in few simple things — our brotherhood, our transparency on all matters, and our loyalty towards the Society.
I believe we're at the start of a new era for Strugglers. One to see us grow into an even bigger Society that can donate to good causes, assist young golfers where needed, and continue setting an example that together we can achieve more than alone.
Welcome to the website of Strugglers Golf Society. We look forward to sharing our journey with you and invite you to join us as we go forward. Stay blessed!
"Play good golf, enjoy great company, and keep the spirit of the Strugglers alive."
As the Society continues to grow, we remain committed to the values and traditions that have shaped our community. Whether you are a long-standing member or new to the Society, the goal remains the same.
The People Behind the Society
The Strugglers are guided by a dedicated committee elected by the membership. Their job is to keep the greens booked, the scores honest, and the banter flowing.
